Crosspoint from the world to the world
Intermodal green corridors concentrate on developing intermodality which is the seamless combination of transportation methods. In logistics services three areas are being developed: Tampere’s position as an inland harbor, logistics added value services and connections to the Far East.
The purpose of the development of the inland harbor idea is to enable functioning cargo traffic from the seas to Finland and with speedy railway and road connections from Finland onwards. Logiera’s inland container terminals function as the unloading point for the load train arriving from the harbors, container loading, unloading and maintenance place as well as a storage center. There are good connections from the container terminal to the Viinikka rail yard, which is one of the two sorting rail yards in Finland. In addition, the inland harbor serves as the terminal for outgoing traffic for the local industry.
Simultaneously with the development of the inland harbor, Logiera develops other logistical services that create added value, such as warehouses managed by the supplier, management of orders, collecting, assembling and product testing.
One of Logiera’s most important development areas is also the development of air cargo connections to the Far East and through this emphasizing the importance of Tampere as a significant crossroad. The connection would bring new possibilities to the entrepreneurs in the area. The working idea is to quickly remove the air cargo arriving at the Tampere-Pirkkala airport into trucks which then leave towards all directions in Finland. The biggest transportation flow is in Scandinavia and North Europe as well as from Scandinavia to China, where products of high degree of processing are exported, such as electronic components, foodstuff and Scandinavian luxury products.

Activities involved in Intermodal green corridors:
- Combined and sustainable transportation routes
- Co-Modality
- Reverse logistics
- Warehouses managed by the suppliers (VMI)
- Management of orders
- Collecting and assembling
- Product testing
With the Intermodal green corridors existing logistics networks can be used more efficiently. At the same time the area’s entrepreneurial possibilities and vitality will improve. Also, the users of the services can be guaranteed reliable delivery times, and transportation entrepreneurs can benefit from green values as well as reduce costs by utilizing the existing infrastructure maximally.
